Project Overview


Quinta do Lago South is more than just a golf course; it is a storied championship venue that has hosted the Portuguese Open eight times. Situated in the heart of the Algarve, it serves as the crown jewel of an expansive lifestyle estate where world-class athletics, luxury wellness, and elite hospitality converge.


The objective of this project was to capture the "South Course experience"—a blend of high-stakes tournament history and the refined service level that defines the resort. From the professional hum of the Paul McGinley Academy to the meticulous daily upkeep by a 25-person greenkeeping team, the goal was to document a destination where every detail is designed to create lasting memories.

The photography Challenge


The primary challenge lay in capturing the sheer scale and variety of the terrain. The South Course is famous for its "hidden" surprises and significant elevation changes, which can be difficult to translate into two-dimensional images.


Furthermore, I had to balance the technical "seriousness" of a tournament-grade course with the inviting warmth of the Algarve sun. Capturing the transition from the pine-lined inland holes to the sudden, expansive water views required perfect timing and a deep understanding of how the light interacts with the Atlantic-facing landscape.

THE APPROACH


My creative strategy was built around "The Grand Reveal." To truly capture the essence of the course, I focused on the dramatic contrast between the strategic, technical doglegs and the breathtaking "apotheosis" of the final holes.


  • Immersion: I utilized low-perspective shots on the fairways to emphasize the undulations and the pristine turf quality maintained by the massive greenkeeping crew.


  • The Signature Holes: For the iconic 15th and 16th, I focused on the emotional impact. On the 15th, I highlighted the tension of the carry over water. On the 16th, I sought to replicate the golfer’s surprise—moving from the blind tee shot to the "amazing" panoramic view where the green drops away toward the lake and the sea.


  • The Detail of Hospitality: I integrated shots of the "shining" fleet of new buggies and the flawless practice facilities to reflect Manager Mario’s philosophy of detail-oriented hospitality.

The result


The final collection is a visual journey that mirrors the perfect itinerary of a luxury golf trip. The images showcase a course that is both a rigorous technical test for low handicappers and a visually stunning playground for the average golfer.


The results capture the unique "front yard" feel of the South Course—an elite, professional environment that remains deeply rooted in the natural beauty of the Algarve. These visuals provide a comprehensive look at why Quinta do Lago South remains a bucket-list destination where perfection is the daily standard.
